Gio Update - Sunday Morning

Things aren't looking as positive as they were yesterday. I just got back from the vet college for a visit with Gio and a talk with the vet.

They have re-run some bloodwork and it looks as if the swelling in his pancreas has gotten a little bit worse. The vet said that while some things are looking up, others are not as good as they were. They've given him a 50% chance of making it through this.

They have started plasma transfusions to try and bring the swelling down and bind up the loose pancreatic enzymes. And put him on more potent anti-nausea medication. He was offered a little bit of food this morning, which he only grudgingly ate ... mind you, it was probably Science Diet so I can't really blame the guy for snubbing it. But he is continuing to throw up, so they can't really offer him anything more than the tiniest of bits to judge whether he has an appetite back or not.

Sorry to hear about Gio and his condition. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your fur people. When my Tru (Oversized F Tri) got into some ham pieces she had an attack of pancriatitas. While her amalayse and Lypase levels were not astronimic they were elevated. I took her to the vet and they placed her on IV fluids. She was the same way as Gio in as much as she wouldn't piddle for them. I would go in the morning and afternoon and walk her and hang out for as long as they would let me. It was at least 5 days before they even tried a little of the canned PD. So it seems to me that they may have tried solid food a little bit early with Gio. Also you mention he is still on pain meds. I know some of those drugs can cause upset, especially when nothing is in the stomach.

I'm no expert and not a vet by any stretch of the imagination and I've never had any fur person who suffered from seizures. But when I read your blog I felt that I had to at least mention what Tru went thru with her incident.

As I mentioned before, our thoughts and prayers are with you and Gio. He is a fighter.

(May God stand between you and harm in all the empty places that you must walk)
